YouthRookieCamp.com
was developed by Fred Daniels a true student of the game
with a well balanced approach to
the game of basketball.
I learned the game on the streets and gyms of New York. I perfected my
game as 4 year member
of the varsity basketball team at Albany high school and 4 years playing NCAA
division I
basketball at Siena College. In Addition to 2 years with the Albany Patroons of the CBA,
I've worked
a number of top basketball camps across the country teaching,
Ball Handing, Shooting and Defense
to basketball players of all ages.
I found through my experience at these basketball
camps and with my son
during his early years of basketball league play that basic fundamentals are not taught at an
early
age. I also found that most parents don't have the, experience,
know how or time
to help their child develop their basketball skills. Therefore the games are not very exciting
and the young basketball
player often don't find the sport enjoyable.
What Youth Rookie camp will do, is give a step by step approach to teaching your
child
the basic skills needed to compete.
We will provide you with tools that will help you get your child
started off right and help them
enjoy the game of basketball at an early age.
First we will learn to pass the ball in a manner that is effective for both
the passer and receiver.
Players will work as two man teams and complete a series of drills and exercises.
We will teach the 3 basic passes,
-
The chest pass,
-
The bounce pass
-
The over head pass.
Our
youth basketball camp will teach the proper footwork and finger tip control,
along with the
proper release and follow through.
Catching
the ball is the next step in the instruction.
We will teach the young player to:
- Step into the pass
- Catch the ball with both hands
- Simple skills to get open for the pass
- The proper footwork so that they will not travel while catching the pass
Ball handling is the last and most difficult skill but we will make it fun and competitive for the player.
We will teach ball handling skills that will grow with the player.
- The speed Dribble
- Dribbling
with the off hand
- Cross over
Dribble
- Spin Dribble
- Stop and Go Dribble
- Head up eyes forward
Our youth basketball camp will leave the young player with drills that
will increase their ball handling skills as they develop as a basketball player.
